Northland Inc is the Regional Economic Development Agency for Northland encompassing the Regional Tourism Organisation and central government’s Regional Business Partner (RBP) Network. Their vision is for Northland to be one of the most prosperous regions in New Zealand delivering employment and business opportunities for locals in a fair and equitable society and a healthy and productive environment.
Northland Inc works with regional and national partners across the public and private sectors, with a common agenda to strengthen, grow and diversify Northland’s economy.
They operate a number of regional initiatives including:
The Regional Business Partner Network - the first point of contact for businesses seeking government assistance. The programme provides eligible business owners free access to funding, advice and support. Through this initiative, they have distributed tens of thousands of dollars towards business training and more than $5 million in technology and development funding to businesses throughout the region. Whitelaw Weber is proud to be an approved provider of advice and support for our region’s commercial sector.
Extension 350 - a farmer-led mentoring and extension programme designed to lift profitability, environmental sustainability, and wellbeing on Northland farms.
The Pick - a business ideas challenge for the local, everyday people of Northland. It's a supported journey that helps people with passion turn their great business ideas into reality.
The Orchard - is a collaborative business and event space for the growing community of entrepreneurs, start-ups and already established business professionals in Northland.
Funding and support - training and capability:
Most business owners and managers are experts in the day to day delivery of their core product or service.
However when they experience rapid growth, scale up production and sales, venture into exporting, or simply take on their first employee things sometime get a little bit more tricky. Many owners, managers and team leaders require better skills and knowledge in some areas to enable them to be effective, responsive and confident to lead the business into the future.
The Business Growth Programme can help you to identify and prioritise the skill gaps and build that capability. This is done through a voucher system. Vouchers can cover up to half the cost of training workshops, courses and coaching services (up to a maximum value of $5,000 a year excluding GST) to improve your management capabilities.
